Running out of time before your A Level exams? Tutoring Space shares last-minute revision hacks to help you stay focused, revise efficiently, and maximize your final week before exam day!
Preparing for your A Level exams can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re just one week away. But don’t panic. Even in the final stretch, there are powerful ways to boost your performance, stay organized, and walk into the exam room with confidence.
At Tutoring Space, we work with A Level students every year to optimize their revision, and we’ve compiled our top last-minute A Level revision hacks to help you make the most of your remaining time.
In your last week, prioritize the topics that are most likely to appear on the exam and carry high weight. Use your syllabus as a checklist and review past paper trends to identify recurring question types.
✔ Tip: Aim to cover common question formats like derivatives in Maths, titration calculations in Chemistry, or photoelectric effect in Physics.
Nothing beats active recall and exam-style practice. The best way to prepare your brain for exam day is to simulate the experience. Start doing 1–2 past papers per subject per day, focusing on timing and accuracy.
✔ Mark your papers using the official mark scheme to see where you lose marks and why.
For subjects that require a lot of content retention, like Biology or Chemistry, flashcards are your best friend. Use them for definitions, equations, or processes like mitosis or organic reaction mechanisms.
✔ Tools like Anki or Quizlet are great for spaced repetition in short sessions.
Now isn’t the time to reread textbooks passively. Instead, close your notes and try to recall information from memory. Use blurting (writing everything you remember on a topic), then check for accuracy.
✔ Active recall has been proven to outperform rereading in terms of retention.
Don’t ignore your mock exams or previous past papers. Revisit questions you got wrong, understand why, and try them again. This is a powerful method for eliminating repeated errors. Don't be afraid to make mistakes when preparing for the upcoming exam!
✔ Make a list of common mistakes and review them the night before your exam.
Especially for Maths and Sciences, make sure you’ve got key equations and definitions memorized. Create a formula sheet or summary page to look at daily. This will save time and stress on the actual exam.
✔ Keep it concise, 1 page per subject is ideal.
Plan each day of your final week by dividing subjects and tasks into focused revision blocks. Don’t overload your day; instead, focus on 2–3 subjects per day with strategic review sessions.
✔ Use the Pomodoro technique (25 min work + 5 min break) to stay sharp.
Teaching a concept to someone else, or even just to yourself aloud, is a brilliant way to find gaps in your understanding. Try explaining a tricky concept from your syllabus in plain language.
✔ If you can teach it, you truly understand it.
Burnout is real. Don’t sacrifice sleep or skip meals during this final week. Rest improves memory consolidation and reduces anxiety. Aim for 7–8 hours of sleep, regular meals, and some light physical activity daily.
✔ Light stretching or a walk can help you recharge between revision blocks.
Avoid exam-day panic by packing everything early: pens, calculator, ID, water bottle, etc. Check your exam timetable and location. Go to bed early the night before and avoid cramming at the last minute.
✔ Organize your bag 1–2 days ahead so you’re mentally focused, not frantic.
Your final week before A Levels doesn’t have to be a time of chaos. With smart strategies and focused revision, you can still make significant progress. At Tutoring Space, we support students through every stage of their A Level journey, from weekly study plans to last-minute exam tips.
